As per 2013 syllabus Anna university added more topics in it .
Means that comparing with pervious year syllabus more then 1 and half unit is added . 6.30 unit is given as 5 unit .
PH6151 Engineering Physics 1 syllabus report
UNIT I CRYSTAL PHYSICS
This is given as unit 5 in R-2008 . Under this unit
Polymorphism and allotropy , Crystal defects topics were removed and Crystal growth techniques –solution, melt (Bridgman and Czochralski) and vapour growth techniques (qualitative) topics were added
UNIT II PROPERTIES OF MATTER AND THERMAL PHYSICS
This is completely new topic
Means that comparing with pervious year syllabus more then 1 and half unit is added . 6.30 unit is given as 5 unit .

UNIT III QUANTUM PHYSICS
This is given as unit iv in r-2008. No more changes in this unit .
UNIT IV ACOUSTICS AND ULTRASONICS
This is a large unit comparative with r-2008
The Ultrasonics alone given as unit 1 in R-2008 . But in R-2013
ACOUSTICS(new topic) also combined with this and given as unit 4.
ACOUSTICS
(Classification of Sound- decibel- Weber–Fechner law – Sabine’s formula- derivation using growth and decay method – Absorption Coefficient and its determination –factors affecting acoustics of buildings and their remedies.)
UNIT V PHOTONICS AND FIBRE OPTICS
This is a large unit comparative with R-2008
The FIBRE OPTICS alone given as unit 1 in R-2008 . But in R-2013 PHOTONICS (new topic) also combined with this and given as unit 5.
PHOTONICS
Spontaneous and stimulated emission- Population inversion -Einstein’s A and B coefficients -
derivation. Types of lasers – Nd:YAG, CO2 , Semiconductor lasers (homojunction & heterojunction)-
Industrial and Medical Applications.
Principle and propagation of light in optical fibres – Numerical aperture and Acceptance angle - Types of optical fibres (material, refractive index, mode) – attenuation, dispersion, bending - Fibre Optical Communication system (Block diagram) - Active and passive fibre sensors- Endoscope
